Assuming that it is a common fig, and a variety that will ripen figs in your climate....yes.

Search this forum and especially the Figs 4 Fun Forum for some instructions on how to prune a fig tree for better production. Threads by "ascpete" will show diagrams.

A 50+ year old fig tree that might have been neglected, can certainly be made to bear figs, and can be pruned back and be trained to produce figs that can be picked without using a ladder. It may take a few years to get that tree under control, but it can be done easily.

And a 50y old tree ought to have a heck of a root system already established and can push out great growth, be productive.

Many thanks for advice as to 50+ year old fig; its life has been saved!

I have one that is older than that and it is covered with figs every year and I do nothing at all to it.As long as it is healthy it will produce.

My fig bushes are 40 years old. They die back to the ground in very cold winters, but always return in the spring.
