lsu purple in md?

Today I managed to find a local nursery that had Hardy Chicago fig trees (recommended to me on this forum for my zone). They also had LSU purple and some others...I could not resist and bought one (LSU purple) in addition to the Hardy Chicago. I looked it up and it is supposed to be hardy to zone 7 (mine), but I'm wondering if anybody has any experience with this variety this far north. Now I'm worried that it will not survive the winter. The tree is probably about three years old and over 4' tall and I was planning on just planting it in the ground along with the hardy Chicago. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Not hardy enough for South Jersey shore zone 7. Will die to the ground here.

That's not encouraging! I am in Annapolis...a little warmer than Jersey. Should I protect it?

I wrapped mine and it still died to the ground and the winter was mild. All trees should be protected for the first couple years.

LSU Purple also needs a ton of heat to taste great. I pulled the stump out of the ground and grew it in a pot. It's just ok for me. There are better choices for you in your area.

Well, I will give it some time and replace if necessary. At least the hardy Chicago should be great!
