Hi George :I just wanted to mention a few days ago when you wrote that your Marseilles is atacked by the ants the worse,that it has to be sweet and good tasting.
I noticed that the ants find every time the sweetest figs to feed on.You look at a fig ,if you do not see ants or other insect trying to dig a hole in it ,it is not sweet.
Ants do not bother me really.Regards

George, I asked the quistion once about the armenian. Are you growing it in ground or in pots? I learned not to judge by first fruits. Give the tree another year before you decide on it. It doesn't seem to have anything special about it like you said. My marseille is doing great, and the ants try to go into it, but it has closed eye.
I would love to try LSU purple it looks like a good fig.

First of all, my wife ate the sencond halves and she rated
them best tasting as LSU.P, Marseilles and (blant) Armenian.
Bass, you are right, one should not judge just by the first
fig. Also I am not sure it was fully ripe! Seemed to hang
in there, swollen but firm, forever, and I got impatient!

Now I hear talk between Bass and Herman that there are
more than one (white) Marseilles!? Why am I surprised?
For the record, I got mine from EL in 2002.

I agree with Herman that ants like sweets. Mine did not
split (lots of rain), but since ants got in, I assume it
as open eye.

Little ants (~3/32") seem to invade my potted figs, I think,
for the the sake of dryness. How does one get rid of
them safely?

Well George Bass Marseilles is positivelly diff.than yours.It does have close eye,wick is very good for New Jersey and allso the skin is enough thich to resist spoilage.It also Kepp the Breba I had two breba of very good quality fromit.It is very small but i think is a winner.If you come to see my collection i will show it to you.Regards
