The nickel sized figs are this year's crop. It's probably too late for them to ripen this year. They will fall off once the trees go dormant, or you could pinch them off now, and a new crop of figs will form next year. I'm still waiting for my figs to ripen, but may not get any this year as the weather is poor.

Since your figs are in bigger pots and you are in Zone 7b, the easy option for winter storage will be inside your garage. Many do it this way in zone 6. I tried it in Zone 5a with some heating to keep the garage above freezing (even above 25F).
