Any one succeed air layering in fall?

I am in zone 8a/b and I would like to air layer some of my fig trees...I realize they are beginning to shed leaves, but it takes a long time before they go completely dormant here (SEastern Louisiana). I might try some in the paper towel/bag method, but would prefer air layered plants for a stronger start. Thanks for any advice.

I'm in zone 9 a little south of you and have started some a few weeks ago and they are doing well and have plenty of roots. Some of them showed roots in 8 days. My trees are going through a fall flush (new growth) and I believe this helps with the rooting.
