Figs taking forever to get big?

Our tree is doing great as a plant. There are dozens of figs growing. The largest/oldest on the tree are still small, about an inch. I am concerned that the season will end before any are ripe. It is a Brown Fig. I am on Long Island in NY.

Should I trim some new growth, take off the newest tiny figs that I know won't make it in time, or just wait and see.

I learned this method from a member that has been around figs all his life.

On each branch that has the bunches of fig cut off the tip of the branch, no more than an inch will do. Take off the new figlets too.

This shouldn't be too late and will/should work for you.

You should start to see some swelling soon.

There are tons of information here and the figs4fun forum on how to get the fruit to ripen quiker, A to Z.
Funny the things you can learn and how exciting it is when you find out how easy it is.

I know we all have our everyday lives but try to take a few minutes a day researching this forum. You will be amazed. And good for the mind.

What we need now is for the temps to stay warn just a bit longer so our fruit can ripen.

Another trick is to rub just a bit of olive oil on the eye with a Q-tip. Most experts say it changes the taste of the fruit a bit, and I agree. But when all else fails, what would you do? LOL

Without the heat all this effort CAN go to waste.

Figs in our climate takes as long as all other Fall fruits to ripe.
Plums,Quinces,Persimmon,Apples.

My "ATREANO" finished ripening figs just about one month ago. My season is now over. I live in the Bronx, NYC...so, I'm in your area. I guess it depends on variety. "ATREANO" ripens mid-August, into early September. Zaino's Garden Center in Westbury, NY carries this variety.

By the way, I pinch out all terminal buds after new growth produces the 6th leaf, this controls branch length. Then I pinch out all newly formed terminal buds after June 21st. It doesn't take long to control the growth, fig production increases, and fig ripening starts sooner. I grow single-trunked small trees,(total height, about 6-7 ft,) in 25 gallon containers. I started in 2007. EVERYTHING I know about growing figs came from this forum and the great members who have helped me with my questions.
