Figs aren't getting bigger

they seem to have stopped at about 1" dia. Plenty of rain and watering when no rain. Any ideas or is just not that time yet?

About 80 days from when you first see them appear .

fritzgarden...

Young trees, push out figs sometimes too late in the season, and they will not ripen before the onset of chilly nights. If your trees are just starting out, you may not get ripe figs this season.

You do not mention variety. Some varieties set a late crop, and might not ripen figs in your short season.

However, figs can go from very hard-green stage, to big, fat and soft in a couple of days, sometimes overnight. Top dress the soil with granular limestone to cut acidic conditions. Full sun and heat will help.

Keep doing all the good things, and hope for the best before the cool weather. Try pinching all terminal buds, and pull off all smaller, figs that will never ripen. Leave behind only the fewer, but, larger figs.

Good luck.

Actually, I'm not sure the variety. We did have late season crop the first year that fully ripened, but I can't remember the time frame.
Guess I'll hope the best and keep doing.
Pinch off the "late comers".
What is a "terminal" bud"?

"Terminal" is the adjective of an "ending" part. Terminal bud "ends" the branch (on its top).

An alternative expression could be "apical". Terminal bud = apical bud (apex=top/vertex)

how would I identify the variety that I have?
