I am in your location and lost some figs too. Negronne was a real splitter this year. What can you do? You can't control the weather but you can control what varieties of figs you have. I did not lose 1 latarolla to splitting. Others that fared well were hardy chicago, malta black, sals, marseilles vs and similar figs with tight eyes.

Thanks for the info I have a few others that are doing fine I am not up on what kind or the name of them they were given to me long time ago from a old school Italian guy that said they are black or white figs only I know that their is much more than but I never looked into them thanks again

I had the same thing happen with my brown fig tree up here in Westchester. Last weeks rain caused about 25% of the fruits to get ripe and split while still undersized. I shook out the wasps and ants and ate them off the tree. Some of the remaining fruits have white " stretch marks" but since the rain ended no more have split.

My green varieties are fine but still small and I have my doubts as to if they will ever ripen.

Container grown, or, planted in the ground?? How many trees?

Here's what I did when I knew the hurricane/rainstorm was coming my way. I grow in large containers, and just before it started to rain, I quickly tied-(with bungee chords), small, plastic tarps around the top of the containers to prevent water from soaking into the soil. Home Depot sells them. The water just rolls off the tarps. Very, very few figs got waterlogged. Remove the tarps when the sun shines, and the birds start singing again. You'll warble a few notes too!

In-ground growing, I can't help you.... but growing in containers...YOU must control water going into the soil, rain, or otherwise.

I had mine planted in Al's mixture which is supposed to limit perched water. When I water it drains out the bottom very fast but I imagine the amount of rain we had was too much for even that.

We are also on Ling Island. Same story here except we got to the figs before any bugs did. That rain sure plumped them up quick. They were very good.
