Thanks Martin, that's a great picture and will help me know when it's ready. I hope my fig ripens to perfection just so I can tell a little about it. Do all the figs on this tree have no neck or stem. It seems like yours is tight to the branch also. Mine will probably not get as dark as it's on the shady side of the house. I had to move most of my trees there when we were getting those 100 degree plus days for a couple of weeks.

yes most had little to no neck as you say.
It did like the heat that i could not provide to get all the crop to ripen as it would have much of it left going into October which here is not good because the nights are too cold .
I tried 1 season to wheel the plant in and out of garage at night to help ripen the crop as i was curious and more figs did ripen this way but they lost there taste . This is main reason i had to let this tree go.

That is the shortest neck/stem combination of any fig I have seen.......very unique characteristic.

I picked the fig yesterday evening. When I checked it for ripeness, it fell off in my hand. It had one small crack on one side. The inside was very smooth and creamy with no crunch. The flavor was mild, not very figgy as in Celeste, but not like a berry flavor either. Kind of hard to describe with only tasting 1/2 of it, had to share with Linda. She thought it had a hint of fig, but very mild. Being it's the first fruit on this one year old tree I assume the flavor will intensify as the tree mature. There was a small amount of mold that had just started to grow in the eye but had not penetrated into the fig.

yes tree does need more maturity the interior and exterior were much darker when i had my plant.
