Try making them out of cheese cloth (cheap). Might re-cycle old nylon stockings or panty hose (durable and re usable). Some light airy fabrics sold in sewing shops for making curtains should work too. Good luck.

A lot of people over in the Fruit and Orchard Forum use cloth parts bags from this company. In general they feel they are more protective than the kind sold at orchard supply stores.

I've been using a fine mesh nylon drawstring bag that I got from Johnny's Selected Seeds years ago. It allows good air circulation, drys out very fast and is very sturdy. The original purpose was to cover a flower to prevent pollination by insects.

The only problem is that Johnny's no longer offers this item. But if you know someone who sews they would be very easy to make.

I had no luck with bottle wasp traps. This is an unusual and very effective yellowjacket trap.

If you try it, the bait should be changed daily. And start with a large piece of fish until the nest is aware of the location. It was too effective with a small piece - all the yellowjackets were falling in and drowning before the word got out! I buy a thick piece of fish, cut it into chunks and freeze it. I used a big safety pin to secure the fish.
