Fig Pinching Method

Charlie

For those doubting Thomases who have expressed reservations that the "pinch after six" method of causing earlier maturation of your figs, I am here to testify. For two years now my celeste and brown turkey figs in northern Virginia have failed to ripen before the first frost. This past winter was harsh and my figs died down to the ground, but grew out from the roots. I knew that fruit maturation would be more doubtful this year. I used the pinch method after 6-7 leaves on a stalk and even with the freezing winter delay I have already harvested figs. First freeze normally occurs mid October so I will harvest even more. The pinch method works!
