Air-layered branches

I air-layered three branches on the Brown Turkey tree and they rooted very well. I separated them from the mother tree and planted them in pots. I noticed temperature at night drops to 50 or below so I decided to take them in unheated basement where the temperature ranges from 65 to 70 and provided the area with none heat fluorescent lights for a while until the roots established. I noticed that the leaves a little welted I assumed that is normal. I removed the fruits and half of the leaves. I Wonder if what I did is OK and I am not going to kill them that way.
