Green German Fig

I exchanged several cuttings with someone on this forum that lives on LI. Green German loves growing in a pot in full sun. I got 6 large figs that ripend with the leaves fallen off. As you can tell it wasn't sweet being a fig from a cutting. The fig is 1 1/4 diameter it was red and had a nice eating texture. I'll keep this on in my basement til next April. I have 6 more varieties none did this well in the same sun.

Are figs from cuttings not sweet?

RE: Green German Fig

Rich, some figs are sweet right from the beginning on young trees. Others may take 2-3 years or longer to develop their best flavor(usually by the third year). LSU Purple is a prime example. My first ones this fall were just "kind of" good, but very promising.

What he said ^^^^

I potted cuttings of roughly 15 varieties about 20 months ago. Three of them are sweet, most are insipid.

With any luck the others will be sweet next year.
