Interesting you mention this because all my bud tip cuttings, I snip off the bud tip, so as to get a branching plant as opposed to a single trunk type plant. And having done this I haven't noticed a difference in the rooting success.

the bud tip cuttings i have going right now have branched off so far . no problems with leaving the bud in place.

The six cutting I have are shooting leaves and no roots. One of it has several white pointy spots which looks like root but not big enough to support a tree. Some of the green shooting is dying. should I pull all the green shooting off

I get about the same success rate between dormant mid branch and dormant tip cuttings. I prefer to start my cuttings off in baggies and then place them in rooting cups as soon as I see root initials forming on the cutting.

I have had problems a few years ago with "late winter" tip cuttings that I received in trade from a much colder climate than mine. Some of the tip buds were dead from cold exposure which gave me mold problems until I figured it out. If the bud tip is damaged or dead, is should always be removed before trying to root the cutting.

FP - try reducing the transpirational rate by cutting the leaves in half across the veins or by removing (some)leaves low on the cutting. In either case, try to raise humidity levels in the air surrounding the cuttings. Tenting is a good way to achieve this.

The 'white pointy spots' you referred to are root primordia, the immediate precursor to roots. Root initials are hidden beneath the periderm (bark) and are invisible.
