another overwintering question

I've been interested in all the overwintering info. I have two Canadice - one I planted froze to the ground and in despair I planted another, and then the first one came back up. They are identical in size now, about 18", and side by side.

(I thought it might overwinter because of the one in front of the Garden Deva sculpture studio in Tulsa)

I've been thinking of digging them up for winter, but really do not have room in the garage, because it is a one-car garage and we actually keep a car there, and I don't have a basement. Also the garage has a window and doesn't get very dark.

So - I'm thinking I might T-post some hog wire around the two trees after they go dormant then fill it in with straw. So they will be somewhat protected. We don't get super cold until January usually, but then we can get epic ice storms.

Worth a try?
