Help! Brown spots on my fig leaves!!

I have a lot of figs, all are different varieties, but the tags have fallen off, so I can't name them. Some of them are developing small brown spots on the leaves, for fear of disease, I have been removing the leaves and throwing them in the burn pile, but a couple of the plants have too many leaves covered in brown spots so I am afraid to take them all off. What do I need to do? Is there a spray? I suspect that this is a fungus, but I know too little to tell.
Oh, and I have a few figs fruiting, but I don't know how to tell when the fruits are ripe. How do I tell? As I wrote above, all are different varieties. And what does it mean if the fruit falls off before it gets big? One of my plants has done that. I am keeping them small, at least until I move to a house. I had one fig last year, but our difficult winter killed it, but I loved it so much I bought 11 this year. Any advice to keep my babies happy is welcome!!
