Wintering my fig tree

pezabelle

We inherited a fig tree that is about 15 yrs old, transplanted it with success, had fruit last fall and thought we had lost it this spring.

It did come up and bigger than ever but the fruit, and there is lots of little figs, will not ripen before the rainy-cold weather sets in.

Should we be doing something to protect the tree during the winter? It was planted close to other shrubs and now it is by its self. Should be move it closer to other plants or our home?

Read where we should "wrap" it but some of the advice seem really far out there, but we do want to keep this tree.

Thank You in advance for any help you can offer!
