Welcome to the world of fig growing. The learning curve will be short and sweet at the end. Go for it!

What ever you decide to grow....make sure you buy a short season fig that will ripen figs in your climate. All fig varieties will basically need the same cultural requirements, but not all varieties will ripen figs in your area.

Also, you might want to check out fig retailers doing business in Canada.

Your major problem will be keeping your tree(s) alive through your Zone-4 winters. Be wary of hardiness claims. No fig will survive your winters without your intervention, and protection from freezing....not even varieties like "Hardy Chicago", nor, "Brown Turkey", especially, when young.

It can be done, and is done, but it takes some cautious planning.
