I have a Hardy Chicago and Improved Celeste that are still putting on new leafs, wonder if that will be a problem this winter?

Thanks.

Cecil

RE: Still putting on new leafs?

Cecil, I don't have an answer for you but I have the same problem with two trees of mine, both the same variety. The mother tree was bought for a LSU Gold, but it's not. Around August it was loaded with figs and following instructions from fig fanciers I pinched the tip to try to force them to stop growing and start ripening. Well they stopped growing for a week of so, then took of like mad. At each pinch 3 or 4 sprouts grew, and I do mean grew. They have added 2 feet or more to those sprouts. Each one has figs from the size of a quarter to pea size. And, its still growing and adding figs. It did the same thing last year until late in the year. It finally got cold enough to stop it. It didn't seem to hurt it much or at all. I will watch it more closely this year to see exactly when it stops and again when it will start next year.

Here is a picture showing all the new figs and still going.

Same thing here. I'm not too worried unless we get a hard freeze and that does not happen here too often. Last year I had the same thing going on and the little pea size figs hung on the trees and finished growing in the spring/summer.

Mine do the same, Cecil. Just leave them alone and they'll be fine.
