I have one large tree which I can not take into the Garage (all my other Fig trees spend the winter in the Garage) I hang Xmas lights on that one tree. I used that last year and it was protected somewhat.

Cotton, where in NY are you, what zone? What side of the house is it on? I dont cut back my trees until they are fully dormant, but see no reason why you cant when the time is right. I dont cover my trees but it is done by many in these parts and not hard to do.

Hi Ed. For the figs that still have very soft, new green wood, is is better to prune back to more solid brown wood, or just let the freezing weather do that?

I know which would be easier on me of course, but which would be easier on the trees? ;-)

And the trees I got from you this summer grew like weeds! I expect they will fruit very strongly next summer.

I dont prune any green growth, just prune like I said when dormant and not until winter is almost over, unless pruning to take cuttings to root.
