Fig virus can,t be eliminated,but you can make the plant survive better if you place leaf compost around base ,up to 10 inches high,and also mix limestone powder or granulate ,mix in the compost.if the soil is acidic in your area.
Mix a whole 40 pound bag in there.

Thanks for the info herman. The tree is dormant now and I have disposed of the leaves as I do each year. I do have plenty of Maple leaves, or were you thinking of the leaf mold mulch that is sometimes sold in bags?

The limestone is to raise the PH, but what is the purpose of the leaf mold?

I had the same symtoms on a sunflower, tomato, and Hardy Kiwi that were about 30 feet away from the fig. I pruned out all of the affected branches on these and did not see the problem return, although the jury is still out on the Kiwi until spring.

I was wondering if aggressive pruning of the fig might slow down the effects of the virus.

A Diseased fig tree ,need a lot more TLC,to produce a good harvestcompared to a healthy tree..
Mulching is part of the TLC,
It will help the tree cope with the disease.
