Gopher ate fig tree, can I make root starts in winter

Hi, my one year old fig tree was just destroyed by gophers. all four leaves have been brown but the the leaf bud is still alive. The tree has a hair of root and I put it back in a pot with some dirt.

Sorry for the gopher mishap.
You being in USDA 10 zone can safely root fig twigs anytime.
Temperature 70*F+ and good light will be helpful.
I do root figs all year round in my USDA_6b zone.
In winter it is either in my GH or in (relative) warm basement.
