Hi Danay. I'm in west Pembroke Pines! You must have smaller children. My teens hate to work in the yard. You must come to Ricky's swap May 20th in Boca. So many of us have been gardening for so long that we now just want our extra plants to go to a good home and not the compost heap.
What kind of plants are you interested in?

I have 2 boys, the 4 year old is loving the digging and watering and the teenager just lugs the large bags for me ;-)

I will definitely hit the swap, as I would love to just meet other gardners at this point and ask dumb questions.

I don't really know what I like yet. At this point, my plans are... a small organic veggie garden, gardenias (which I adore) and figuring out what grows where so I can landscape a little every weekend. I have a house with a lot of land to garden and right now there's just a ton of grass. While it's very pretty, I long to see a pond, some pathways, etc.

I'm also getting ready to start my own compost heap. Any suggestions on best methods?

P. Pines will be starting a new garbage pick up system in mid May. We will be given new garbage cans. I'd like to use the old one somewhere in the garden for composting. I think you need to drill holes on the bottom and sides but I like the fact it has a lid.

For composting, have you checked out Can-O-Worms? Supposed to be great for small batches.

Although, recycling my garbage can may be a good bet too.
