Hi Cliff, good question! I know that our trucks are covered no matter who drives them, as part of our policy. But we pay for it, not the person who borrows the truck.

Without a vehicle to insure, I suspect you will not be required to carry "auto" insurance.

But, please call a reputable company and speak to an Agent, to be sure.

If you don't own a car, you don't need to carry auto insurance.

If you rent a car, they'll require you to accept their insurance.
If you drive someone else's car, then it's not a bad idea to carry just PIP. That's personal injury protection. It will cover medical bills for yourself and for your passengers up to the policy limit - usually 10,000 at least. It's a 'no-fault' thing so it doesn't matter who caused the accident. You can also get PIP/PD which is PIP with a little property damage coverage thrown in.

If you drive at all, even if you don't own a car, Lisa's advice is very good: talk to an agent and ask what's the minimum you can get by with.
