Florida Trail Backpacking Trip

This weekend Chris and I did the Florida Trail from Oasis Visitor Center in Big Cypress to the ALligator Alley visitor/reststop on I-75. It's ~ 28-30 miles and we intended to do it in four days, returning today, however we got out there and found out there was no water! We found one otter hole but the muddy water ended up clogging our filter and we didn't bring a spare, so we pushed it and did it in three days instead. Our breakdown was about 9.5 Friday, ~13.5 on Saturday and yesterday we got up early and did the 5.5 to the car. Anyway, I wanted to share the photos: here. It's a great hike and we enjoyed it a lot. An extra day would have been great so we could have explored. We hardly saw any animals, just hawks, swallowtail kite, a snake. No deer, panthers, bear, racoons....nada. Guess they are somewhere else where the water is.

Great photos! Love all the flower pictures, of course.
This sounds like a wonderful trip. We've talked about spending some time getting to know the Everglades area a little, but never seem to get around to it.
Thanks for sharing!

Misti,

Sounds like you and Chris had a great time! I'm going to have to try it one of these days! First I'm trying to get a couple of girlfriends to bike around Lake Ockacobee (sorry about the spelling!)

Also, if you don't know about OAK, you might want to check them out.

Here is a link that might be useful: Outdoor Adventures Klub
