Hurricane tax relief

My opinion in a word - WHOOPITYDOO.

I wanted more gasoline cans, so yeah I bought them and bought a couple packs of batteries, but it's not like the "tax relief" encouraged me to "be prepared" - the items were things I was intending to buy anyway, so I went and saved my whopping $2.00. Wow, I can go eat from the McDonald's dollar menu now!

I would have preferred the excess money funding this tax relief had been put into a castastrophic disaster fund toward insurance. Not like that $2.00 made it any easier to write a check for my homeowners insurance and the way the companies are dropping Florida like flies, we are ALL going to be stuck with Citizens.

Hope everyone has their "Portable, self-powered light source", that's what politicians use anyway; us common folk just call them flashlights!!!!

I just got my Citizen's Home Ins. renewal. It went up $350 so now I'm paying $1400. My wind ins. went up $350, so that's $1400. Can't wait to get the flood ins. bill.

I'll go get some bottled water and more batteries and use that for the increases, too!lol

Insurance companies filtch money from people all the time then when they have to give some back it's, "OH NO What's that behind you!" and they are gone before you can turn back around.

The Tax Relief can be decent bucks if you buy a generator. I went to Lowes with a friend to get one for him. It was marked at $699. Lowes is giving an additional 7.5% off hurricane tax relief items, as well as the "no tax" break.

The generator rang up at $649, saved $50 right there. Then with the 7.5 and 6% breaks he saved another $87.

$137 will buy quite a few gas cans, or non perishable food, or fuel.

I got zilch of a break on my nice quiet Honda generator though.. Oh well...

No doubt the tax relief is a good savings on big ticket items, but the generator is the only big ticket item on the list. The rest is piddly stuff that is a joke more than anything.

The reasoning for the tax break was to encourage us to be prepared - what with a $20 flashlight? To me it's just a lame way to squander a lot of money already in the state coffers and really doesn't benefit anyone.
