Questions about visiting New York City....

This is for anyone that lived there or has vacationed there. Thinking of a possible weekend get away in a couple months. Would love to stay in Manhattan in the middle of it all, but dont wanna spend that much, $400+ a night. lol Hoping you guys might know of some cheaper hotels around $100 a night? ..and close to the subway...isnt that the way to get around?

The subway is a great way to get around. In Manhattan taxis are also good and less expensive than you probably think. I'm sorry to tell you though that there are no hotels in Manhattan for $100/night. Your best bet is to go to priceline.com and make a bid for the price you want. Try a 3 star hotel at $100 and see if you get any takers. I recently used priceline for a room in San Diego and got a great room for $120 but Manhattan is expensive. Maybe somebody else has a better suggestion...

Cliff, if you can't find any buys in the city, try Queens. Right outside of Manhattan and you can take the bus, train or taxi. We always stayed in the Pan Am hotel on Queens Blvd. www.panamhotelnewyork.com, after we moved out of Queens to PA. It's always been a nice place, nothing fancy, just clean and convenient. Close to Macy's in Queens and the Queens Center mall, too.

Make sure you go to Little Italy for some Ferrara's canolis, have a good piece of NY pizza and don't forget the belly bombers - White Castle hamburgers! Bring me back a sack of burgers!

You have to see a Broadway show. There's a Tickets booth in the center of Times Square where you can go to get last minute tickets left for the shows at discount prices.

Just walking around the city is great. Don't forget Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Bldg. and the site of the WTC. Actually, the website for the hotel has a tour offer that seems to include all the sites in case you don't want to go it on your own, but sometimes the best part is just walking around the city and people watching!

Oh and go to a Yankee game, not the Mets!lol

Hey Dude, my cousin lives in the heart of Manhattan. I talk to her every couple of days. Let me get some feedback from her on best places to stay. She has lived there f-o-r-e-v-e-r, knows everyone and everything about the city. If you go, you MUST do the museums. I'll ask her about gardens and tours too. AND when you get in the cab for your first time, tell the driver you want a REAL NY City cab ride...I almost lost my teeth last time I was there we were flying so fast!!!
