I just took some cuttings from a crepe myrtle to try my hand at propogating. I was also wondering about the seeds that are starting to appear now.
In the past I have always gotten a nice supply of babies from underneath the mama tree. The seedlings are very tender, though, and I have to be sure to get all their little roots. I have one that bloomed shortly after I potted it up and it was only 4" tall! You should've seen me doin' the Happy Dance....

Anyways, this is a Good Question and I hope that you will get more answers. Maybe you should post it to the Discussions Page since not everybody comes over here to Conversations.

the pea looking seed pod holds actually about 8 of the crepe myrtle seeds inside of it. not sure how the cuttings do but root cuttings tend to do better for me

I rooted some cuttings last year. It's fairly easy to do and out of 11 I started, 8 made it. I took cuttings from new growth, took all but a few leaves off, dipped them in rooting hormone, put them in pots, watered well and covered the pots with plastic baggies held in place with rubber bands. I put the pots in a shady spot. I don't remember exactly how long it took for them to root, but it was quite a while.
