Just want to keep this on top.

For those of you with dogs, I get a couple of pieces of sod, put down some plastic in the garage and then put down the sod. The dog now has a place to go during the hurricane and it can be used out side after it's all over. And clean up is easy. Good especially if you have a small dog like I do, only 12 lbs.

Do you have a safe place in your house? A bathroom, or even a closet without windows? This looks like it's going to be a pretty minor storm, but if the forecasters are wrong, you'll be more comfortable if you prep it a little.

Before Wilma hit us as a Cat 1, I put a flashlight, pillows and a book in one of my bathrooms, figuring I'd never need to go there for a Cat 1, but it was something to do. Then, I watched Wilma through my many windows, fascinated by the debris washing in from the Bay. Then a window I wasn't standing near broke and I grabbed the cats and went to the bathroom for a couple hours, feeling pretty foolish, and lucky.

I hope you don't need it, but it can't hurt to prep it.

Another thing that I don't see mentioned often, but can be important, is to keep a pair of shoes either on or less than a step away. Having to walk over even a little bit of broken glass can really ruin your day. Especially here in Florida, where a lot of us go barefoot at home, it's a good thing to remember.

(I learned this in a combat survival class I took to prepare for covering a war. And I've only used the first aid training once, for a minor gardening accident right here at home. I can also attest to the fact that some men, when bleeding profusely enough _ and that's often not very much for men _ will consent to having feminine hygiene products taped to their hands. They work as well as bandages in a pinch. :o)
