Ah, beachcat...another day in paradise....raising my icehouse your way.

Very unusual and very beautiful. I'm a sunset freak and have dozens of photos of them, but none with these interesting bands.

The cloud effect you saw with the colors was probably iridescense. I used to commute quite a distance each day and when the sun was close to setting, it often caused this iridescent effect in the clouds. Really cool. Check out this link for some other neat effects.
