OK I have one - or three really. I worked with Steve Dix for a couple of years. Not closely but we definitely knew each other. Last December I was hosting a "house concert" with a St Augustine folk artist. It was my fisrt time hosting and, to make a long story short, I had too few people because I ended up having the concert two Saturdays before Christmas and everyone was Christmas- partying. Ran into Steve at the local Publix and invited him to swell the ranks as much as anything. He and his wife Susie came that night and when I took them on the obligatory garden tour I discovered the were also plant-aholics (and later found many shared interests). We travel in a pack now to swaps.

Then just this weekend at Di's house when I arrived at the swap I saw Todd Peterson who I also work with. I asked him what he was doing there and then his wife Evelyn came up and asked how I knew her husband. Had not made the connection until just then.

I even have a third one but its not GardenWeb. Yet another gentleman with whom I have a professional connection retired. Next thing I know I see that he has won the Leu Gardens Volunteer of the year award for most hours. I later saw him at the Orange County Master Gardener's Plant Sale. He was working there and is a Master Gardener. I never knew he had this passion. You just never know what intersting people lurk behind the work-a-day mask that we all wear!

Today at work someone was telling me that I really needed to get together with one of her new employees because we both quilt. I joked with her, while walking over to this new person's office, that it could be a problem since I used to work with someone else who quilted and we developed a bad habit of taking excessively long lunches a couple times a month to go fabric shopping. You've probably already guessed the end of this story: yup, it's the woman I used to work with! And now if she starts taking long lunches, her boss already knows who to blame!
