Idiots who want to ban books:)

I can't believe it. I just read that some woman wants to ban the Harry Potter books from her kid's school because she thinks they are enticing people to joint the Wiccan religion. I never can figure out if these people are just that ignorant or if they were dropped on their heads as small children. Okay, I feel better now. That is my rant for the day:)

I have a few female friends who are (loosely) practicing wicans. They believe in a strong relationship between mankind and earth. Good people. Funny thing , they all were raised catholic.........

I was raised Catholic too and once you are thoroughly indoctrinated in all the ritual and symbolism of that group, I think it's easy to embrace other theologies with similar fixations. After all, symbolism and ritual are the fun parts of religion!

I've heard about the protests over the Potter books and anything else about witches and wizards. Pure silliness to feel threatened by these wonderful books. But threatened people - whether the threat is real or imagined - can be dangerous.

For one, there isn't any religion on the books. It's just plain good vs. evil. So, I don't get where people say they are making kids believe in a certain religion.

We homeschool and several other homeschooling Moms forbid their kids reading HP books. While I am not into the "magic" in the books, what is the difference between that and Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz? I encourage reading and if that is what my Son wants to read, it's okay with me.

The surest way to get someone to read a book or go to a movie is to tell them it is banned/forbidden. I think everyone should make their own choices, but I will make my own and I don't want else anyone telling my kid what to read or inflicting their viewpoints on me. I have no doubt that every child who has been told not to read certain books will make every effort to read that book at the first opportunity. Parents who don't know that are in for a surprise:)

Folks who object to "magic" don't seem to have a problem with telling their kids there is a guy in a red suit with a beard who brings presents every year or a giant bunny who hides Easter eggs in their yard, and both of these fantastic characters manage to do this all over the world in less than 24 hours. I think some people just aren't happy unless they are finding the Devil/evil in every corner.

I love the HP books! My oldest son got me started on them. What's great is that you see little kids walking around with their HP books. Anything that gets kids reading is great. They are such good stories. What the heck are people complaining about???

I was not only raised Catholic, I'm a 12 year Catholic school survivor!lol After all that, I'm still a practicing Catholic. I read the Da Vinci Code before I found out that the Pope said we couldn't read it!lol I still don't get what the problem was with that book. I thought it was ok, not great and I never rented the movie. Dan Brown's Angels & Demons was much better.

If you don't like a book, close it. It's up to parents to know what their kids are reading and watching. Sure, you don't want porno mags in the school library, but banning Harry Potter????!!!! I just don't know what to say.
