If it won't be stored in one of those climate controlled places, then I would do a couple things. We had to do this for 4 months once so I understand your concern.

• Put bricks or blocks under the feet of your furniture to raise it up a bit. It helps with moisture and bugs.

• Cover it loosely with plastic. Home Depot sells big sheets of thin plastic in the painting section as drop cloths that would work. Or even garbage bags or shower curtains.

• Put several bug strips and other insecticides around. Maybe some of those sticky little mouse catcher pads too.

• Try to get to the storage facility each month and open it up so it can air out and you can check on possible water damage. If there's mildew starting you can catch it quickly and fix it. Bring a fan with you and blow air into the unit for an hour to reduce humidity. Bring a book or a radio with you and think of it as a mini-vacation! I used to have lunch with my furniture about every 2 weeks. Serious 'me time'. I had one of the chairs right by the door so I could pull it out in the sunshine and relax while airing the place out.

• There are probably some good desiccants available. Publix has some in little containers but there might be something commercially available that would be better.

You might not have too much of a problem during the winter months, the humidity will be lower. You can buy stuff like Kate said that takes moisture out of the air.

Ralph uses containers of Damp Rid. Takes out the humidity.
