Here his wife is injured and the condition is very appalling

Here he brings her food and attends to her with love and compassion

He brings her food but is shocked with her death and tries to move her

He finds out that his sweetheart is dead and will not come back to him- he cries with adoring love

He stands beside her and screams,saddened of her death

Finally he becomes aware that she would not return to him and has departed, stands beside her body in deep sorrow

It is said that the photographer sold these picture for a nominal price to the most famous newspaper in France .. And all the copies of that newspaper were sold out on the day of publishing the se pictures.

Several years ago one of our cats destroyed a nest of bluebirds and all the eggs and an adult was killed. The mate kept coming back for days waiting and mourning.
It was so sad. It is amazing to see how birds react to untimely death. We live in a world of wonders.

Birds are the most like humans in their mating and rearing behavior, somewhat more devoted if you ask me. Many species mate for life and tragically suffer the death of a mate before their time. This not only brought tears to my eyes but it reminded me of the many times I have shared the pain of loss of other animals I have known.

Thank you Tony for reminding us that there is more to life on earth than just the human condition.

Please post this anywhere that you can it is an amazing look at true love and devotion we can only hope to intimate within our own lives.

These are extraordinary photos. Does anyone know what bird this is? I'm curious to know if this behavior is common. They are so similarly colored, it looks like it could be 2 males. Maybe they bond as a flock? Is that possible?

Never mind the question; I found it. It's a barn swallow and the males and females are very similar. It roosts in large groups and feeds it's young, too, with great devotion until they are well grown. A remarkable bird and this particular variety is well-loved throughout Europe. From these pictures it's easy to see why people are so fond of them.

I'm about to cry! I saw pretty much the same thing when my cockatiel's mate died. He mourned her for weeks and weeks. I buried her right outside the porch, and he would sit and sing to her grave. It was heartbreaking. He has a new mate, but they aren't nearly as loving as he was with his first.
