here we go again

We're going to pick up the puppy, Atticus, tomorrow. I'm so excited! A Great Dane whose dad is a mere 185 pounds and whose mother is a slight 150 pounds.

We picked out Atticus a few weeks ago. Actually he picked us after we played with the litter for awhile. He was the one who separated from the group to come follow us around. And he's been raised with cats and children and lots of other dogs around, including his mom and dad, who are both just gorgeous. The breeder kept him a couple extra weeks because we were going to my folks' house for Thanksgiving and didn't feel like it would be a good idea to bring a new puppy into the house and then tell the house/pet sitter "hey, good luck with that."

But we're so excited to finally bring him home! I'm still a little bruised from the other pup experience but trying to get over that and looking forward to Atticus. Went to petsmart today to get a dog bed, collar, leash and lots of chew-toys. I'm sure the cats will be horrified, the aging lab wary, but we're excited!

As I read your post I couldn't help but notice the ad on the right hand side had the black and white Great Dane doing something for Pergo flooring. I thought you had posted a pic!

Thanks everyone. He's a doll. Scared of his own shadow and really scared of one of the cats, who has made it her mission to train him not to look at her.

Can't wait! Glad to hear he is being a good pup and not intimadating the kitties. They learn there spot real quick!

ok, here he is. He's wonderful. Just took him up to my mother-in-law's and even she loved him.

What a nice looking Pup! I had some friends that always had G. Danes, they are so loving of their family. Great dogs all around.

Aticus is a beautiful baby and I am glad he has found a friend in Scooby. He does seem so hyper and into everything. I think he is allowing his body to grow and he will exercise it soon. He is a beutiful baby and I am glad you are having a better experience this time around. Give him a love rub for me. Happy New Year, Linda

Thanks! He is wonderful. He has his moments of hyperactivity, when he does laps around the yard, galloping like a horse. A couple days ago, we took him and the aging lab to a little dog park in the neighborhood - we figure smelling all the other dogs who were there, even if none are there now, is like TV for dogs. Fred carefully sniffs and marks every tree and light post. Atticus is just beginning to care about other dog smells, but he likes to run and he started galloping around. He ran up to Fred and realized too late that he couldn't stop. So he jumped clear over our 90-pound lab. Fred was not pleased, so he left, pushing open the gate that I hadn't latched well. Fred doesn't move quickly, so Chuck grabbed him right away while I held Atticus, Chuck and I both laughing hysterically at our dogs.
And like any baby, Atticus needs his naps.
