wanted: rfi advice on shipping tubers to canada

Can anyone give me advice on the best way to send Gloriosa Lily tubers to Canada? I'm sending seeds to someone from Costa Rica that's visiting Canada. I figure tubers would flower sooner than seeds so if it's not too expensive or difficult, I would like to include a few tubers. Will they survive in a ziplock bag packed in a padded envelope with the seeds? Should I find a small box or container that would protect it further in the envelope? Or, is a box (no envelope) the only way to go?

Thanks,

The tubers stand a good chance of being smushed in a padded envelope. I would def say (1st choice)box, no envelope. You could try the(2nd choice) box in the envelope and see how it looks. I think a ziplock would create too much moisture.

Coffeemom,

Thanks for the response. I think I'll experiment with storage at home before actually sending. I've got plenty of spare tubers.

I better add to check the postage. I know if you send it priority, the box is free. The envelope may be charged as a flat or a parcel. I don't know the restrictions so it's best to check...no surprises

Try the priority mail boxes. They work well for me in the States,I'm not sure about Canada.
