Good rain? Golly, it's been pouring almost daily here all fall/winter. I don't think we've had more than 3 days at a time at most without any. Can you say "powdery mildew"? Ick.

I'm very jealous of those who've been too dry. We're completely saturated and it's raining again now. :(

It's been a 'wet winter' here. We've gotten rain at least every two or three weeks, which always preceded the night time temps dropping. I think the rain has helped some of my plants deal with those lower temps by keeping the soil a little warmer. The wild clusters of Phlox should be quite spectacular and early this year.

But it's been a 'educational' experience too. Even though we've been fairly wet compared to most winters, much of my yard has been dry (Yay sandhill drainage! :P), but I have been able to show my kids and a few visitors how the mulched beds are still quite damp while the top two inches of other areas are almost bone dry. The beds with autumn's leaves spread over them have been particularly moist and I've been getting quite a bit of 'leaf mold' building. This will be great to add to my compost pile once I rake out the beds that still have these leaves. Unfortunately, it has also means that the snails and slugs have been quite protected too, though the Carolina Wrens keep poking around and taking care of them best they can. I will have to set up beer traps once spring gets good and going.

My biggest fear is that all the rain this winter is going to lead to larger populations of lovebugs and lubbers come spring time.

Wow, what a difference! This is only the second time I've had measurable rain here since Oct. lol...
