If it's the bottom leaves, closest to the ground, I
simply remove them. As long the upper & new leaves look healthy, it's not a problem. & if these are determinate tomatoes, they're supposed to expire once fruiting is complete.
If all's not as I describe, that's another issueâ¦.

This was a horrible tomato season for me...started them early grew very well...had some type of disease and caterpillars attacked them and a few weeks later the plants started yellowing and browning and now they are dying :o(

I think in my case it was a very warm December 10-12 degrees above normal, very humid and foggy mornings added to the problems...not a normal tomato growing season for me...but one of the worst ones I've had!

Not a good tomato season for me, either. Some of my plants only produced one or two tomatoes. Bug and disease pressure was intense, as were the damn root knot nematodes in certain planting areas. Had I not planted 12 plants, I wouldn't have produced hardly anything. I have one left in a 5 gallon bucket that produced okay and is still going, but the fruit are on the smallish side.

I started my seeds last weekend. The Sungolds are up and doing well; the Beefmasters are having trouble breaking out of the seed heads. I also tried to get one more season out of some old Better Boy and SuperSweet 100 seeds, but they haven't done anything yet. Perhaps those seeds are too old and aren't viable anymore. A few more days should tell. This cold weather isn't helping, I do know that. Hopefully, the cold weather will delay the arrival of spring insect pressure.

I've been busy enclosing my aquaponics wood framed greenhouse for the winter. It has been keeping the temperature nice and warm inside with one little electric space heater. The large volume of warm water in the 250 gallon fish tank helps hold the heat overnight even with the cold snaps we've been having.

The Blue Spot Tilapia in my fish tank are for eating but right now I'm wanting to get a breeding pair so I'm holding off munching on them. The baby fish needed to restock my fish tank each spring are expensive to buy and ship to here.
