D.D. Blanchard in Okeechobee

Two days ago I bought and had installed about a fifteen foot tall D.D. Blanchard Southern Magnolia. It is gorgeous and I've been reading about them as to best care for it. Unfortunately, I can't find a lot of information on it in zone 10.

Did I buy something that isn't going to grow well here? Any information would be helpful. Hopefully, some of you have grown them successfully this far south in florida.

Ask your ag agent. It was Dan Culbert. He was my ag agent when I lived in Vero Beach. He was the best!

It will grow well as long as you have acidic soil.

Should I preemptively have a soil test done? I've never done one and have no idea how acidic my soil is.

Take a sample in to your ag center. But you are a ways inland so it should be more on the acidic side. Magnolias like/need acidic soil. Southern Magnolias will grow in south FL if they can grow in acidic pockets. They don't like the alkaline soil nearer the coasts or the coral or shell marls.
