Where did you get a tree that grows sausage?!

Oh, I wish I could grow the sausage tree - I LOVE the flowers. They grow all over Miami and I drool every time I see one!

I have 3 sausage trees that I grew from seed. They sprout very easily. I have had them through 2 winters here so far (Jax area) I put the pots in the gh during the winter. They seem to defoliate and come back fine with new leaves in the spring when I bring them out. I have been keeping them in nursery pots and sinking in the ground them like I do the plumerias when I plant them out in the spring.

I pretty much ignore them and they seem pretty drought tolerant. One grew to 7ft+ when I dug them up this year. The others probably would have too but I neglected everything pretty bad this past summer due to being too busy with other things this year.
Last year the top broke off one and it responded by making branches and it didn't seem to bother it any. I am pretty sure they could become monsters very quickly but you could prune them roots and tops and probably keep them small..I don't know about how they would flower that way.

I left one of my sausage trees out, taken out of the pot and planted in the ground this winter as an experiment here in zn 9a. It got to about 10 feet tall. It froze several times and got into the mid to upper 20's. It looks to have frozen most of its branches but the bottom trunk seems to be okay. I will be watching it to see if it regrows and how fast it puts out growth since it has a good root system in the ground. I still have the 2 I potted and put in the gh.

Anyone know just how long these trees take to flower from seed?

mines doing great this winter,some crispy leaves, but the trunk is intact. been sitting on this same dozen eggs for about eight years now and still no sausage!

Oh I don't like to hear that about it being longer than 8 yrs lol. Now I really wonder how long it does take to get flowers from seed. I tried looking around on the net but it doesn't seem to say specifically. Please post when yours does get sausages so I will have some idea.
