Growing slash pine trees from seed

This is probably the dumbest question I've ever posted, but here goes. Where on slash pine trees can I find the seeds to plant? Are they inside the pine cones? I've seen photos online of the winged seeds, but nowhere can I find out where the seeds are on the tree. I've planted cones without success, so I figure the seeds must be somewhere else on the tree. The cones are plentiful here, and I want to plant pines in nearby areas that have been invested with brazilian pepper and melaleucas.

Get a pine cone that is opening, the wing seeds will be down in the crevis.
Every once in a while I will have some coming up in my yard.
Wonder how long it will take to get big?

So... the unopened cones contain the seeds. Makes sense! I've been planting opened cones with no results. Searched online for hours, not one website said where the seeds are found. Guess everyone knew already.
