Naturalizing narcissus/tazettas in Central FL?

| Has anyone had any luck growing narcissus or tazettas in Central Florida? I've been reading about how the tazettas (paperwhites), chinese sacred lilies, and a few other narcissus do well here in zone 9. I was wondering if they would truly naturalize, the way they do in North Florida/South Georgia, or if they would require a lot more care. Do they put on a good show here or do they struggle? I'm on the border between zones 9a/9b.
I'm looking for some easy winter color in my ground cover plantings.
Thanks.

| When I lived in the Tampa area (Odessa), I had paperwhites, and a yellow jonquil (Soleil d"Or? My memory isn't so good going back 20 yr...)that did pretty well. "Pretty well" means repeat blooming in the winter for several years in a row. They were in clumps in beds, however, not naturalized. The key was to fertilize well at the time the leaves were going down, so the bulbs were well nourished. I never dug them, so I don't know what disease/bug issues may have been going on. They were certainly a joy to see and smell in December! Good luck! |

| eileen, thanks for the response. So did they decline after the first few years? Or did they just stop blooming or disappear? Bill |

Hi Wife got some of these at christmas and I think I'll put them in the terrestrial orchid bed. Probably too shady. I'm not expecting them to do well as I'm in 10 But what the heck.?? Maybe keep them in a pot or trough to see how much sun they need?? gary |
