I was able to get the supermarket ones to grow many years ago. I didn't know what I was doing then and planted them in sugar sand. Unlikely that I fertilized, too.

They had many brown tunnels through the roots from some vermin. I am interested in your results. They are delish.

Someone that came to the garden party one year had some tubers to share, I don't know if anybody else is growing them.

I just went to a gardening class today in Duval county. We had a specialty vegetable class. Sun chokes were mentioned. The instructor said they grew well here, maybe too well. The tubers are supposed to be treated like a potato. Hill them one time only. She said to use the tubers when they are 4 inches long. I'd love to try some.

Yes, they do grow too well in MA - quite invasive. Fortunately we like eating them!

I wouldn't mind them being kinda invasive. It would make a good living fence for awhile. The flowers are supposed to attract beneficial insects. Where would I buy some? A seed catalog?

I'd send you some but by the time I get home it will be way late for you to plant. A lot of mail-order outfits have the tubers for sale, or you can probably find some at a trendy market.

I believe they have been seen at Publix. Certainly a whole foods or health food store with a large produce section.
