Getting ready to expand-what should I plant?

My next door neighbor gave me his "tomato house". I have one just like it full of tomato plants. Tomatos and blueberries are all I know anything about (courtesy of fellow Gardenwebbers on this site). I'd like to grow some container vegtables, but don't know where to begin. What varities do well in containers? Is it too late to plant now? How about fall? Al's mix O.K? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Papa Jim

Hi Papa Jim

Pole beans and cucumbers should do well for you in containers, Al's mix is okay and you can use the sides as trellis. You are in time to plant those, I will be planting mine soon. Most pole bean varieties do well for me, it all matters what you prefer snap, romano, etc.
Looking at the structure, if you make a box in the middle and fill it with good soil, you could grow some summer squash, depending on the size of the box, 1 or 2 plants.
