I did sample a lot of avocados before I bought mine, it is very good. Mine was in a 5 gallon pot when I got it, the person that sold me said to use black cow as an amendment. Here is what we do when planting fruit trees: Make a wide hole, measure the pot to see that is slightly above the ground, the reason being that avocados don't like wet feet, after situating the root ball the best way, mix the original soil with some black cow. Water deeply and use root stimulator if you have available according to the instructions. After 5 years my avocado is really big, the first year when it was planted I did cover the roots when we had a freeze. Now I don't protect it anymore and when I have leftover soil from pots, I add to the planting. It is a good time to plant it now because we should have a good weather for the tree to establish. Give it space, they grow tall and wide.

Zackey, you can maybe try growing one indoors in a pot and take it out in warmer weather.
