As per your advice, I gave my portlandia a good dose of lime and what do you know, it has flower buds on it this year. Thank you so much for that info, I've waited so long for it to bloom. It is nearly 12 feet tall and this will be it's first year blooming.

Katkin, if you have the photo on your computer it's pretty easy now. Just click this button and navigate to the image, but you can only put one image in a post this way. Also, if you go back and edit your post after previewing it, you'll have to attach the image again:

Hi Katkin,
Was curious how the blooms went. I see some Portlandia for sale on ebay from South Florida and was ready to take the leap. Not sure how they would do up in the Tampa area with the colder winter nights. How would you describe the smell? I know Portlandia are known famously for their warm chocolate smell. I love the Oncidium Sharry Baby fragrance which is as close to chocolate as I have ever witnessed. Would you recommend it, also how slow growing is it? Thanks, Joe.
