Bringing plants in for the summer?

As a northerner who enjoyed tropical plants, I am used to having to bring my tropicals inside for the winter.

After being down here in Saint Pete for a year now, I now realize at how many things will not live through the summer here. Many plants I enjoy such as Angel Wing and semperflorens begonias, cyclamens, scented geraniums and a few others grew well until June and then kicked the bucket last summer.

Never one to let my climate dictate my plants, I am wondering about bringing the plants inside into the air conditioned house for the heat of the summer.. June - September.

Has anyone tried doing this to grow any of the above plants, or any plants for similar reasons. How did it work out. I am not sure if this strategy will work and am looking for suggestions.
