Four O'Clocks

I have some seeds for an orange variety of Four O'Clocks coming. I know from reading and also Kara's parents that once you plant Four O'Clocks, they can be hard to remove as they spread via tubers. Often when dealing with this sort of plant I will come up with some means of containing the roots to prevent the tubers from going crazy (I have my alocasias and colocasias planted in submerged 10 and 15 gal nursery pots with the bottoms cut off). As I prepare the sites where the Four O'Clocks will go, I am wondering how deep they will send their tubers? Can I get away with 4 - 6" plastic edging encompassing the areas or should I go deeper? These beds will be a little irregular in shape, so I would like to avoid the bottomless pots if possible.

Thanks.
