Ft Myers tree now two years old

growing very well

, problem is
All along the trunk it keeps trying to put out shoots. Right from bottom to top of where I have it branching out.

Why is this happening
I keep taking them off and they just come back
How about if I wrap the trunk for a couple of years.
But I wonder, why is this happening

RE: more re Meyer Lemon Tree

Almost every citrus tree sold in Florida is grafted, usually onto sour orange root stock to prevent nematodes. It sounds like you are getting suckers from the root stock. Do not wrap it! Just keep cutting them off, as close to the trunk as possible.
