Looks like some kind of Sulphur chrysalis to me.

They do not eat eggplants BTW, their caterpillars eat cassia/senna & crawl away to nearby plants to pupate.

Makes sense I have two cassia senna bicapularis at the entrance to my veggie garden that i planted for sulphur caterpillar food but have never seen one cocooning, the sulphur cocoon looks strikingly similar to an eggplant bloom I thought it might be some butterfly or moth that co-evolved to mimic it. Would it be bad to put this branch in a jar to help make sure this guy hatches? Thanks for your expertise!!!

In the butterfly garden @ the rec center where I work, we just had some sulphur pupae emerge. I tied orange strings to the branches so we could observe them every day w/o disturbing them - also did that w/ a monarch chrysalis. The butterflies will stay on the branch for hours after emerging - it takes a long time for their wings to expand & harden.
